Laser Skin Care
Is laser hair removal safe? Absolutely. The FDA has approved this process for permanent hair reduction on all skin types-including very fair skin, olive, or African- American skin. Treatments are usually most effective on medium to dark hair on any skin type. Fine and light –colored hair is more difficult to treat. Call for a free consultation if you are undecided about whether laser hair reduction will work for you.
What can I expect during treatment? Sometimes the patient finds that an application of a topical anesthetic helps to reduce discomfort. Most patients feel a warm sting as the laser penetrates the hair follicle. The sensation may be like the snap of a rubber band against the skin. To minimize discomfort, a cool topical gel is applied. In addition a cooling air is blown over the skin during the process.
How many treatments are needed? Laser treatments are effective only when the hair follicle is in the active growing stage. Because this occurs at different times, it is impossible to get maximum benefit in one treatment. Several treatments over the course of a few weeks may be necessary to get the maximum benefit. Other factors, like hair density, age, and hormones can affect the results of the treatments.
What can I expect after the each treatment? Having laser skin reduction treatments does not impact your ability to go about your daily routines in any way. As soon as the treatment is over, you are free to resume your normal routine with one exception. Patients should avoid sun exposure after any laser treatment. Some patient s may experience a temporary redness of the treated area. This should resolve within a day.
